How to Claim Your Unclaimed Deposits

1

Initiate the Claim

Each state or Federal registry provides its own process for initiating a claim. Visit the official unclaimed property website for your state, or refer to the official instructions at USA.gov if the assets are under direct Federal custody.

Have the relevant deposit ID or reference number at hand before starting your claim.

2

Prove Your Ownership

Submit documents verifying your identity and connection to the unclaimed deposit. Typically, you may be asked for:

  • Government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license or passport)
  • Proof of address or historical address matching the account
  • Bank statements, passbooks, or official letters referencing the deposit

Each jurisdiction may have additional or fewer requirements. Ensure all documents are up-to-date and legible.

3

Wait for Processing

The relevant state or Federal agency will review your claim, verify your ownership, and process the request. Depending on volume and complexity, this can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.

Check your email or postal mailbox for updates. If further documentation is required, you will be notified.

4

Receive Your Missing Funds

Upon successful validation, a check or electronic transfer is issued to the verified claimant. In some cases, the exact property (e.g., safe deposit box contents) may be returned instead of monetary reimbursement.

Keep your confirmation notice or claim acceptance letter for your records. If you have any concerns about taxes or reporting these funds, consult the IRS guidelines.
